‘Slumberland’ Teaser Lets Jason Momoa Be a Big Boy

Letting Jason Momoa get lost in a kid’s movie seems like a given, so it’s crazy that it’s taken so far for someone to finally realize it. In the first teaser of Slumberland, Momoa plays horned outlaw Flip who helps a young girl (Marlow Barkley) navigate a world of dreams to find her late father. Directed by Francis Lawrence for Netflix, the film is a modern take on the famous turn-of-the-century comic Little Nemo in Slumberland. More importantly, it was a chance for Momoa to be a big kid.

“I became an actor. I can’t get out of this. I try to be adult as possible. But the truth is, I love to play, and it’s fun to be creative and use your imagination,” Momoa told PEOPLE, “My kids keep me young and I do the things you love to do, just to play.

Slumberland reconnects Momoa with Lawrence after the two worked together on See for Apple TV, which encouraged the actor to let go:

The rapport with “someone who trusts you, sort of knows your personality, and lets you down and make mistakes, but keeps trying” gave him experience in his performance.

“And normally directors, they pull you in, they pull you along. And [Lawrence] just kept cheering more and more and more and more wild. I felt really free,” says Momoa.

Slumberland Start Dreaming November 18 on Netflix.
