It’s 2022, and it looks like every show you loved as a carefree young kid has either a reboot or a podcast (or both). That’s a lot, and yet they keep coming. But what if there was a show about how every show has a reboot? Would it be too convoluted? Maybe, but who cares! And that’s the premise of Hulu’s new comedy, Restart.
To restart brings back the cast of wholesome 1990s fake sitcom Go up to the right after all pursuing other projects, like a low-budget sci-fi series or a failed movie career. The studio wants the series rebooted for modern audiences, and chaos ensues! The former co-stars are reunited, there are topical diversity jokes in the writers’ rooms and, of course, comments on social media. But above all, there is Johnny Knoxville.
The series features a charming ensemble cast, including Key and Peele Keegan-Michael Key, the iconic Judy Greer, Johnny Knoxville, Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, former Disney Channel star Calum Worthy and Krista Marie Yu.
comedy comes from modern family Steve Levitan in his first show since the hit series ended in 2020. Earlier this year, Levitan said he was excited to venture into another form of comedy. “It’s really fun representing the old school,” the showrunner told TCA. “It’s a really fun area for me. The generational thing is so clear. Here are the young and here is the old guard. These are struggles that everyone has. I can’t say that? What can I say ?
To restart premieres on Hulu on September 20. Check out the trailer above.
