Cory and Brendan comedy short

The man who “struggles to connect with others” because he “often mistakenly perceives blinking as a threat” has returned to give the world another glimpse into his daily life. It turns out that this man, now known as “Difficulty Man”, is like you and me, in that he needs to take a vacation once in a while. The key word being there odd.

The Holiday of the Troubled Man is the latest in an offbeat series of short films created by comedians and It’s Branchbourg podcast creators Cory Snearowski and Brendan O’Hare. It follows Difficulty Man’s journey as he hits the beach every year to collect free sand (“a seasoning far superior to salt or pepper”), a crusade against lifeguards (aka “those who try to play to God by learning the dark art of CPR”), and look for a fellow seeker who he says has already sent him a personalized message in a bottle. The personalized message? A Wawa receipt that reads: “Thank you! Please come back soon!”

The video is Snearowski and O’Hare at their best, showcasing the comedic oddities that vocal fan Tim Heidecker fell in love with before deciding to attach his production company, Abso Lutely, to the duo’s narrative podcast. “I think there’s a lot of funny people, or people who think they’re funny, who think they can tie a bunch of non-sequences together and improvise to create an absurd conversation,” we- he said of the couple in 2019. “But theirs has a special focus. There are a few surprises. They’re straight-up friendly too. The whole thing feels a bit timeless.

It’s Branchbourg, which featured the voice acting talents of everyone from Tim Robinson to Ezra Koenig, wrapped up its second season in December 2020 and has yet to return. Hoping they heed the immortal words of Wawa receipts everywhere and “please come back soon”.
